1. Rolex Land-Dweller
The Land-Dweller is the talk of the town, and it rightfully deserves to be so. Usually, when the silk caps are lifted at Watches and Wonders, we find Rolex reclining towards a conservative approach and dropping a catalogue full of category-defining models with minor tweaks and iterations on already iconic models.
But 2025 is not the same. The Land-Dweller is the Crownâs most significant release in a generation. It is released in steel, Everose gold, and platinum models in 36mm and 40mm. Design-wise, the Land-Dweller is a revamp of the 1970s Oysterquartz and is topped by a fluted bezel. A flat sapphire crystal tops the watch face, while the sapphire crystal on the back reveals the brand-new movement. The visual harmony gives this timepiece a versatile character, making it perfect for every occasion.
The main highlights of this elegant sports watch include the Flat Jubilee bracelet, dial with honeycomb motif, and a new hi-beat âDynapulseâ escapement. The Dynapulse, made of silicon, helps control the movement and isnât affected by strong magnetic fields. Overall, the Land Dweller is the result of over seven years of development and comes with a new perspective. It reinvents the present and lays a foundation for the future.
2. Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers Solaria Ultra Grand Complication â La PremiĂšre
Vacheron Constantin just dropped the most complex wristwatch ever. It took the brand nearly a decade and 13 patent applications to curate this ingenious timepiece, comprising 1521 components and functions that tell you the positions of the stars and the sunâs trajectory. Is there any better way to celebrate marking 270 years?
The Solaria features 41 complications. To list a handful, it includes â standard time, dual time zone, world timer, moonphase, perpetual calendar, tide indicator, sun position, astrological signs, minute repeater with Westminster chime, temporal tracking of celestial objects, split-second chronograph and power reserve indicator.
Interestingly, Vacheron Constantin squeezed them all in an 18ct white gold case measuring 45mm and thick by 14.99mm. The case also features eight correctors, two pushers, a slider for the minute repeater and two selectors.
Despite this mind-boggling complexity, the watch is highly legible, playing with different shades of black, grey, and white in a sunburst finish. Extra features like the dome indicating the Earth or the gold hemispherical Sun at the 6 oâclock sub-dial with hints of red, green, and yellow to indicate the different functions add to its charm. A staggering achievement in all aspects, the Vacheron Constantin Solaria compresses nothing but uniqueness across two dials, showcasing an extreme exercise of miniaturisation.
3. Patek Philippe Calatrava ref. 6196P
Patekâs excellence in dress watches is back with the new Calatrava 6196P. Enough of the high-spirited watches, the low-key energy of Patek Philippeâs Calatrava is what we need in 2025.
With its vintage-inspired rose-gilt dial, luxurious platinum case and more powerful Calibre 30-255 PS, the new Calatrava Ref. 6196P has a surprisingly contemporary air.
The watch is presented on a more significant 38mm case with a slender profile of 9.33mm and has a diamond set into the case band at 6 oâclock. What remains the same is the three-part case of the Calatrava with the flat-edge bezel. The smooth bezel is bevelled, and the slender lugs taper elegantly.
Speaking of the dial, while the rose-gilt opaline is a nod to the vintage models, the anthracite white gold applied âobus’-style hour markers strike a contemporary note. It is immensely tasteful and compelling.
Another upgrade is the visibility of the Calibre 30-255 PS through the case back, making it recognisable as a contemporary piece with all the right vintage elements. Paired with a brown alligator leather strap, the Calatrava 6196Pâs overall impression is of restrained elegance.
